10月に入ってからも今年は暑い日が続いて、30℃と夏のような日がたくさんありました。しかし、10月17日くらいから、突然気温が下がり、20℃前後と、急に冬になったような気温になりました。朝と夜はジャケットが必要なくらい寒いです。ずっとTシャツで生活していたので、週末には急いで冬の服を出しました。秋の服は出番が少なそうだなと思っています。
This October’s weather was weird. There were days on which temperatures reached over 30 degreed Celcius like during summer, but around October 17th, the temperature dropped significantly and topped at around 20 degrees. I felt that winter had come and skipped autumn. I was wearing t-shirts all the time in the beginning of October, so I had to rush into the closet and take out my winter clothes. I don’t think I will need autumn clothes for long this year.

さて、これくらい寒くなってくると、そろそろ「木枯らし」が吹くころです。木枯らしとは、10月半ばから11月に吹く強い北風の事です。木枯らしと呼ぶための条件があるので、全ての北風が木枯らしになるわけではないですが、大変冷たい強い風が吹いてくると、あぁもうすぐ冬になるんだなぁ。これは木枯らしかなぁと感じます。その年の一番最初の木枯らしを「木枯らし1号」と呼んで、ニュースでも発表されます。天気予報では、「今日あたりに木枯らし1号が吹く予想です」と言ったりしますよ。秋の天気予報を聞くときは、今年の木枯らしはいつかなという事にも注意して聞いてみてくださいね。
When the weather begins to get cold, it’s the time when kogarashi comes. Kogarashi is a strong gust of wind from the north which comes after mid October and in November. There are specific conditions in which the wind is called kogarashi, so it doesn’t occur every year, but every time I feel a strong cold wind, I sense that winter is coming. The first kogarashi of the year is called kogarashi 1(ichi)-gou and the weather forecast reports about it. They say, “Today will be Kogarashi 1gou.” If you have an opportunity to listen to a weather forecast in Japan during autumn, maybe you can learn when kogarashi occurs that year.
