風鈴は風に揺れると音が鳴る物で、様々な素材やデザインの物があります。私が子供の頃には、夏になるとよく風鈴の音が色々な家から聞こえてきました。風鈴のチリンチリンという音を聞くと、涼しい気持ちになったのを思い出します。
When a fūrin (wind chime) is jostled by a breeze it lets out a note, and they are made with various materials and designs. When I was a child, I often heard the sound of fūrin ringing from peoples’ houses during the summer. I remember that whenever I heard the chirin-chirin sound of the fūrin, it made me feel refreshed.

最近は皆さん窓を閉めてエアコンをつけていますから、風鈴をつける家がすくなくなったか、風鈴の音が外に聞こえなくなったのかなと思います。
These days, everybody keeps their windows closed and uses air conditioning, so the number of homes hanging fūrin has either decreased, or else you can’t hear them from outside anymore.

私は見たことがありませんが、昔は夏になると風鈴屋さんが車にたくさん風鈴をつけて売りに来ていたそうです。今でも夏になると色々なタイプの風鈴が販売されます。陶芸が盛んな地域では、自分でオリジナルの風鈴を作ることもできますよ。
I have never seen one, but in the past during summer time, fūrin sellers would come by, driving cars that were covered in fūrin. Even today, when summer comes, many types of fūrin go on sale. In regions well-known for ceramics, you can even create your own original fūrin.
